Formally known as Adult Alcohol Awareness Weekend (AAA).

The Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) program is an intensive weekend program that focuses on the impact alcohol and other drug (AOD) use has on one’s life and those around them. The weekend program offers a great deal of information regarding addiction, recovery, and relapse prevention. This program is highly interactive and consists of psychoeducation, didactic groups, group debates, and guest Impact Speakers. The guest speakers are people in long-term recovery and people who have been affected by drunk and drugged driving, they come to share their testimony and discuss the impact it has had on their lives.

  • Signs and symptoms of addiction
  • Learning about abuse, tolerance, and dependency
  • Drug classifications and the impact each drug has on an individual (short and long-term effects)
  • The stages of addiction and stages of change
  • Self-assessments to determine their level of use and/or abuse

  • Michigan laws as it pertains to drinking and driving offenses

This 8-week psychoeducation group was developed as a tool for those struggling with substance abuse. Each participant will complete a Substance Abuse Screening prior to entry into the program. The Substance Abuse screening is to determine appropriateness of treatment and the individual’s willingness and readiness for change.  This group is an open group, most commonly consisting of 8 sessions (one per week).

Controlling Anger is a multi-week program designed for those who have exhibited trouble controlling their anger and emotional impulses. This is an educational class only; it is not meant to substitute counseling or the 52-week DV program but rather provide concrete tools for improving anger management that students can start to use immediately.
